Although fully modernised, Chaffeys retains many features of an 18th century small farmer’s house, and a few showing its origins as a small house of the 16th or 17th century. It is situated near the end of West Street, a cul-de-sac. It has three bedrooms, one on the ground floor with a shower and loo. There is a bathroom upstairs.
On the ground floor there is a living room with sitting and dining space for six people and dominated by an inglenook fireplace with a wood burning stove. There is a modernised, rather small kitchen, a small utility area, a shower room with handbasin and loo, and a bedroom with twin beds. The steep, rather twisting staircase leads to two more bedrooms, one with twin beds and the other with bunk beds, and a bathroom with bath, handbasin and loo and a powerful extractor fan as there is no window. Ceilings are low. There is gas central heating and the cost of electricity and gas is included in the rent. Behind the cottage is a secluded traditional garden. Please don’t try to climb the trees!
Chaffeys is delightful, providing modern comfort and convenience in a traditionally picturesque village setting.
In this part of West Street traffic is so light that children play safely in the street, and guests can enjoy the tranquillity of the countryside.
